Testing Services
Our licensed clinical psychologists conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations to determine if further interventions may be beneficial.
Psychological and Neuropsychological Testing
This allows us to assess an individual’s cognitive capacities such as verbal abilities, nonverbal abilities, working memory and processing speed. An individual’s cognitive skills influence their ability to perform in school as well as their ability to function in everyday life.
This allows us to assess if presenting concerns have an impact on academic achievement and if a learning disorder is present.
This allows us to assess an individuals current skills related to communication, daily living skills, socialization, motor skills ,etc. to determine if they are performing at the appropriate level for their age and/or developmental level.
These help assess for impairments and concerns related to speed of information processing, attention, memory, language, and executive functioning, which are necessary for goal directed behaviors.
These measures can be objective or subjective and allow us to further look at both conscious and unconscious aspects of personality and emotional concerns. These often allow us to gather a deeper understanding of presenting concerns.
These allow us to see how an individual’s symptoms are presenting across settings and how they are perceived by different individuals. This is important for diagnostic purposes as well as when making recommendations.
Who would benefit from an evaluation?
Individuals who would benefit from an evaluation include but are not limited to:
- Individuals who have concerns related to ADHD, Autism, developmental delays, academic difficulties, mood and behavioral dysregulation, etc. in which an evaluation is needed in order to determine recommendations or an appropriate diagnosis.
- An evaluation would also be beneficial in order to clarify a diagnosis when an individual presents with symptoms of several diagnoses and further clarification is needed. An accurate diagnosis is important when it comes to medication management and therapy services.
- Individuals who have ongoing concerns that have not significantly responded to treatment may also benefit from an evaluation to gain a deeper understanding of concerns, which could in turn help treatment move forward.
- Individuals who need an up-to-date evaluation in order to receive support services such as when an individual is requesting academic support services in the collegiate setting or individuals whose insurance is requiring a reassessment to determine the level of intervention that an individual still needs, such as those receiving ABA therapy for ASD.
- Those seeking a second opinion on diagnosis and recommendations.
This is a short list but many others may benefit as well. Families are always welcome to schedule an initial meeting to discuss their concerns and talk about psychological testing to determine if it would be beneficial for them.
How long does the evaluation take?
The first meeting will take approximately one hour. During this appointment, the clinician will meet with the parents (if client is a minor) or with the client (adults) in order to discuss presenting concerns and patient history to help determine the most appropriate assessment measures to use in order to evaluate the identified concerns. After that, the time to complete the assessments with the client present often takes on average 4-6 hours over 1-2 testing sessions. These sessions will be scheduled by the clinician during the intake session. After the assessments are completed, the clinician will score the assessments and complete an evaluation report. This is completed without the patient present. Once the report is completed, the clinician has one final meeting with the client/parents in order to review the results and recommendations.
How are results shared with other services providers?
At Jennifer E. Manfre and Associates we value the importance to of coordination with other members of your health care team. Because of this, we will consult your other treatment providers, as appropriate to discuss presenting concerns and testing results. Additionally, when consent is provided, the evaluation report can be sent to other providers for review.
