Child psychological Testing
Psychological Testing Services for Children and Adolescents
If you or a school staff member suspect that your child is having difficulties within the academic setting, you should consider having your child evaluated by one of our licensed clinical psychologists to determine if further intervention is necessary. We offer assessments for concerns related to:
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Anxiety or Mood
- Attention Problems
- Cognitive Functioning
- Learning Problems
- Social-Emotional Problems
Psychological testing will require you to schedule several appointments. The first appointment is an initial 50-minute meeting between you and one of our licensed clinical psychologists who will be completing the testing process with your child. This is a parent-only meeting. During this time, a thorough interview pertaining to your child’s medical history, family and social history, academic functioning and current concerns will be completed. This first session is also a good time to bring in copies of any relevant paperwork such as IEPs, most recent evaluations or teacher/school reports.
Testing is typically completed within two appointments, each lasting 3 hours. Our primary goal is to obtain the optimal level of test performance from your child. Therefore, evaluations are only conducted in the morning and early afternoon hours. The first testing session will begin with a brief clinical interview with your child. The remainder of the evaluation will involve standardized testing. Parents are asked to wait in the reception area throughout the evaluation. There are many variables that will determine the length and extent of your child’s test battery, such as reason for referral, age, endurance, attentional abilities, etc. However, most evaluations are completed within 2 to 3 sessions.
You will schedule a final meeting with your clinician to review the results of your child’s assessment. This meeting takes place within approximately 3 to 4 weeks after the final testing session. A Psychological Evaluation report is prepared for you, and this information is also typically faxed by our office to your child’s primary care physician and/or psychiatrist. At this time, you and your clinician will discuss clinical recommendations for treatment and any follow-up testing, if necessary. If your child requires additional services (ie., medication management, school consultation, etc), we can also assist you with these referrals.
